KICKR ROLLR Smart Bike Roller Trainer

KICKR ROLLR Smart Bike Roller Trainer — Wahoo Trainers and Rollers

GBP 529.99 — In stock

The KICKR ROLLR is the answer to a specific problem: you want to ride indoors without spending five minutes mounting a bike, and you do not want to remove your rear wheel. The front wheel sits in a tyre gripper that holds the bike upright, and the rear wheel runs on a pair of rollers. You wheel the bike in, clamp the front, and ride. Getting off takes seconds.

Because the rear wheel is free to move on the rollers rather than being locked into a frame, the ride feel is noticeably more natural than a conventional wheel-on trainer. The bike moves under you slightly, the way it does on the road. Riders who find direct drive trainers feel dead often prefer this.

The trade-off is power measurement, and it is worth being straightforward about it. Wahoo did not build a power meter into the ROLLR, because there is no reliable way to account for tyre rolling resistance losses at the roller. A firmware update added an onboard power estimate, which is fine for entertainment and casual training, but it is explicitly not comparable to a real power meter. For accurate numbers you pair an external power meter over ANT+, and the ROLLR uses that reading to control resistance.

Who this suits

Riders who already own a power meter, and who value convenience highly. If you commute or ride outdoors regularly and want to jump on for forty minutes without a setup ritual, this is the most frictionless option we sell. It also suits households where several bikes get used, because there is no cassette to match and no axle standard to worry about.

Who should look elsewhere

If you do not own a power meter and are not planning to buy one, get the KICKR CORE 2 instead. It measures power itself to ±2%, and for structured training or Zwift racing that matters more than convenience. If you race, the same applies. And if you want gradient movement, note that the KICKR CLIMB is not compatible with the ROLLR — only with KICKR and KICKR CORE trainers.

You will also go through rear tyres faster than on a direct drive trainer. A dedicated trainer tyre like the Continental Hometrainer II is worth fitting if you use it regularly.

How it compares to what else we stock

The natural comparison is rollers. The Elite Nero smart rollers and Elite Arion Mag give a similar free-moving feel, but proper rollers require balance and skill; the ROLLR clamps the front wheel, so anyone can ride it immediately. Against the CORE 2, the ROLLR wins on convenience and loses on power accuracy and maximum resistance.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a power meter to use it?

Not to ride it, but yes for accurate power. Without one you get an onboard estimate that Wahoo is clear is not comparable to a real power meter. If you plan to train with numbers or race, either buy a power meter or choose the CORE 2.

Will my gravel or mountain bike fit?

It takes 700c tyres up to 45mm, so most road and gravel bikes are fine. Wide mountain bike tyres are not.

Do I need to remove my rear wheel?

No, and that is the point of it. Both wheels stay on the bike.

Can I use a KICKR CLIMB with it?

No. Wahoo lists CLIMB compatibility for KICKR and KICKR CORE trainers only. The ROLLR is not on that list.

Is it louder than a direct drive trainer?

Yes, because your tyre is running on rollers. Fitting a trainer-specific tyre reduces it. If noise is a primary concern, read our guide to the quietest trainers for flats.
