This kit converts a KICKR you already own to virtual shifting. You remove the cassette, fit the Zwift Cog in its place, clip the Zwift Click to your handlebar, and from then on you shift inside Zwift rather than through your drivetrain.

The practical gain is that cassette matching stops being your problem. The Cog is a single sprocket that works with almost any 8 to 13 speed bike, so you can put any bike on the trainer without buying a cassette to match it or indexing gears. If you have more than one bike, or you have just upgraded to a drivetrain your trainer cassette does not suit, this is cheaper than a new cassette and considerably less hassle.

It also quietens things down. Most of the noise from a direct drive trainer is chain running over cassette sprockets and shifting under load. On a single Cog with a straight chainline, that mostly goes away.

Who this suits

Riders with more than one bike, riders who mostly or only ride in Zwift, and anyone whose bike is 12 or 13-speed on a trainer fitted with an 11-speed cassette. Also anyone training in a room where drivetrain noise is a problem.

Who should skip it

If you ride one bike, it is 11-speed, and you like shifting with your own levers, you gain little. Virtual shifting needs Zwift specifically — if you train mainly in TrainerRoad or another app, keep the cassette. And it is a Bluetooth device with a battery, which is one more thing to keep charged.
